On systemsGrace is mostly scaffolding.
Ballet taught me that the effortless part is built from years of the same exercises at the barre, in the same order. I think about how much of what we call charm, or chemistry, or luck, is really structure nobody sees. The interesting people notice the scaffolding and still enjoy the performance.

On cyclesThe chorus always comes round.
Jazz is built on returns: the same changes, again and again, and the pleasure is in what’s different each time. Seasons, moon phases, a conversation that gets a little deeper on the fourth telling. Repetition only feels dull to people who aren’t paying attention.

A contrarian noteManners first. Candour after.
I don’t think “just be yourself” is good advice. Good manners aren’t a mask; they’re the kindness that makes room for real candour later. It’s also why rudeness and entitlement never get far with me. Prim first, curious after — it works far better than you’d think.
